- Q: What time is school in session? (School hours)
- A: Students may begin to arrive outside at school at 7:40. Supervision will begin at this time.
- A: The bell rings and students enter the building at 7:45.
- A: The school day is from 7:50-2:50. Students are marked tardy (or absent) at 7:50.
- Q: Where do students enter school in the morning?
- A: Kindergarten students line up outside the Kindergarten doors (on the ramp that you can easily see from the 4-way stop at Birch and 10th).
- A: 1st and 2nd Graders line up at the back of the school near the playground. (Near the gym).
- A: *3rd Grade lines up at the front of the school by the main doors.
- A: *4th Grade lines up at the front of the school by the preschool doors.
- A: *5th Grade lines up at the back of the school near the playground.
- Q: Where are students dismissed at the end of the day?
- A: Kindergartners are dismissed out the same door that they enter in the morning. Families picking up will wait in the grassy area near the gazebo. Teachers will dismiss Kindergartners to their guardians by giving a high-five and making visual contact/waving to the parents/adults picking up each child. (Please do not wait on the ramp or allow siblings/younger children to wait on the ramp-it gets crowded!). :)
- A: 1st graders are dismissed out the door by the amphitheater/gym. They walk around towards the bike racks after being dismissed from their classrooms.
- A: 2nd Grade is dismissed out the double doors at the back of the school by the gym.
- *Please check with your 2-5th grade teachers for the most up-to-date info!
- Q: Where can I drop off/pick-up my child?
- A: You can park your car anywhere along the street (without "No Parking" signs) and walk to pick-up or drop-off your child.
- A: At the beginning of the year we prefer that you do not just drop your child off in the circle drive as they will not be familiar with the routine and walking alone to the meeting place in the morning may be difficult for them.
- Please DO NOT park in the staff parking lot- there are just enough spots for staff. If you need to park in the disabled parking spots and have a permit to do so, you are welcome to park there.
- Q: Can my child meet me at the circle drive after school so I don't have to get out of the car?
- A: To be sure that all Kindergartners get home safely we require that we see each child connect with the adult who will take them home. We are not able to leave our classes during dismissal to walk children to the circle drive to make sure they make it to you safely (you may not park or get out of your car at the circle drive- this is to keep traffic flowing smoothly). Towards the end of the year your teacher and you may be able to make a plan to allow your child to walk to the circle drive on their own. This will depend on their independence and responsibility.
- Q: My child has an older sibling, I would like them to walk home together after school. Is this allowed for Kindergartners?
- A: At the beginning of the year we still prefer that an adult is there to pick-up and help Kindergartners get home safely. After routines are in place individual plans can be made with your child's teacher.
- Q: Can my child ride their bike to school?
- A: Yes! We have a bike rack at school and encourage kids to walk or ride their bikes to school when they can! This helps with the busy morning traffic and is great exercise for your child too! Please be sure that your child is following safety rules: wear a helmet, cross the street at cross-walks, and once your child is on school grounds they need to get off their bike and walk it (from the staff parking lot all the way to the 4-way stop at Birch and 10th is considered school grounds). We also STRONGLY recommend that your child locks their bike up at the bike rack.
- Q: What do we do if there is bad weather?
- A: If the temperature drops below 15* or if there is an excessive amount of snow, rain, or inclement weather we will put up a blue flag on the flagpole in front of the main entrance and on the fence near the gazebo. A "Blue Flag Day" indicates that your child should enter the school through the main doors as students will wait indoors for the bell and will have indoor recess.
- Q: My child goes to daycare/rides a bus. Their van/bus will pick them up after school. How will my child get to the daycare van/bus?
- A: For the first few weeks of school we will arrange to make sure an adult walks your child to their daycare van or school bus. After their routine is established and we feel they can safely make it to their van/bus we will release them more independently. For daycare vans we usually connect them with an older student who will pick them up from us and then walk with them to the van. The school buses are within our eyesight, so we will usually release the kids to walk to the bus as we watch.
- Q: My child is signed up to attend SAC at Birch or after-school care at the Salvation Army. How will they get there?
- A: SAC- the SAC teachers pick up Kindergartners in our classrooms at the end of the day.
- A: Salvation Army- the Salvation Army teachers establish a meeting place next to our dismissal location and pick up their group of kids. They then cross the street and walk to the Salvation Army together.
